The Arrasate Herri Eskola playground has moved away from its former hard surface to become a more welcoming space. This project follows the path taken by the local council at the Erguin and San Andrés schools, aiming to turn outdoor areas into extensions of the educational curriculum.
The new layout is divided into three main zones. The movement area, named 'Mari's Forest', includes a slide, climbing ramps, and balance equipment. A second artistic and symbolic space features a tipi, a small stage, and a school garden. Finally, a third area is dedicated to biodiversity, featuring an insect hotel and bird nesting boxes.
The work, carried out by the company K1 Ekopaisaia, prioritized sustainability by reusing demolition materials to create mounds and relief features. Additionally, oak, holm oak, and cherry trees were planted to provide shade and increase biodiversity within the school grounds.
