The first phase of the Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship is underway, with several towns in the region having played their initial knockout matches. However, Zumaia has not started the competition as hoped, losing two-nil in the 'erreminta' modality.

The matches were played at the Aitzuri fronton, in the round of sixteen phase, against Oiartzun. Zumaia had the chance to achieve a draw, but ultimately ended the day empty-handed. In leather pala, one pair lost 21-35, and in short pala, another pair lost by a score of 39-40.

With this result, the tie has become an uphill battle for Zumaia, but they still have the return matches to play. They will play the return matches in Oiartzun next weekend. Meanwhile, the rubber paleta players will play their round of sixteen match next weekend, facing Soraluze as their opponent.
