The Esparbela history and ethnography association has presented a series of four lectures for the month of May, aiming to disseminate the past and maritime heritage of Mutriku at the Zabiel cultural center.

The program will begin on May 19 with a talk on local history. Following this, on May 21, the role of Mutriku in Basque forestry and shipbuilding will be examined, followed on May 26 by a session on inshore fishing vessels and traditional carpentry. The series will conclude on May 28 with a lecture on shipbuilding between the 16th and 18th centuries.
This initiative is part of the work of the Esparbela association, which was created to research and disseminate the history and ethnography of the town. The group aims to prevent the loss of collective memory and return historical knowledge to the community.
According to the association, although Mutriku has 817 years of history since receiving its town charter in 1209 from Alfonso VIII, much of this legacy has remained unknown to many residents, a gap the collective intends to address through these activities.
