The women's team, under the guidance of Iñaki Goikoetxea, confirmed their permanence in Liga F last Saturday by defeating Alhama 2-0 at Ipurua. This victory solidifies the project's position in the First Division for the fourth consecutive season.
The win, achieved through goals from Laura Camino and Carmen Álvarez, allowed Eibar to reach 24 points with two matchdays left in the championship. This tally proved sufficient to ensure their safety after a season marked by contrasting performances. The first half was outstanding, with the team achieving its best start in the First Division by accumulating 17 points in the initial 15 matches. The second half of the season, however, was characterized by significant inconsistency, including a ten-game winless streak.
Nevertheless, the seven points earned in the last four matchdays were enough to achieve the main objective of the season. Eibar remains in thirteenth place with 24 points, five less than Espanyol and three more than Logroño. Behind them, both Alhama and Levante have already been mathematically relegated after their recent defeats.
This achievement holds special significance given the context in which it occurred. Last summer, the team underwent a major squad reconstruction following numerous changes and the arrival of Iñaki Goikoetxea to the bench. Despite these challenges, Eibar managed to remain competitive and will embark on its fourth consecutive season in the top flight next year, following their promotion in the 2022/23 campaign.
The victory against Alhama reflected the competitive identity the team had regained in recent weeks. Laura Camino opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a clear handball inside the area and was named MVP of the match. In the second half, Carmen Álvarez sealed the game by converting a superb cross from Laura Camino with a volley. From that point, Eibar managed their lead confidently, supported by several crucial saves from Eunate Astralaga.
With their primary goal achieved, the team now faces the challenge of concluding the season as strongly as possible. The squad aims to finish with positive momentum and strive to reach the 30-point mark in their final two matches against Sevilla and Logroño. Before returning to competition on May 26 in the Andalusian capital, the team will continue training at Areitio.
