The aid will be channeled through the Red Cross and funded by the municipal budget line reserved for natural disasters and humanitarian crises. This decision, proposed by the Mayor's Office, aims to alleviate the situation of thousands of people impacted by one of the country's largest recent natural catastrophes.
The earthquakes have resulted in numerous casualties and significant damage to housing, health centers, and basic infrastructure. The local government stated that this donation seeks to address the most urgent needs of the affected population, demonstrating the city's solidarity.
This action is part of a municipal cooperation policy that has been activated in previous emergencies, such as the aid approved in 2024 for municipalities in Valencia affected by the DANA, or the support provided in 2021 to the residents of La Palma following the Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption.
Additionally, the Department of Social Services has launched a new grant package for 2025 totaling 427,077.04 euros to promote international development cooperation.
