An Eibar runner delivered an outstanding performance last Saturday at the Domusa Teknik, one of the most challenging trail races on the Basque Country calendar. The event, held in Azpeitia, saw the Eibar athlete secure third position in the main race, a grueling 65-kilometer course with an accumulated elevation gain of 7,400 meters, of which 3,700 were positive ascent.
The race attracted numerous mountain specialists and featured a significant representation from Eibar, with a total of eleven runners from the city participating. All of them successfully completed the course, in a day characterized by the toughness of the route and the high competitive pace.
The Eibar runner remained in the leading group for almost the entire race, alongside the winner and the second-place finisher. The three athletes engaged in an intense battle for the top positions until the final stretch, when the first two managed to open a small gap, leaving the Eibar athlete without a chance to contend for victory.
Ultimately, the winner claimed victory with a time of 5 hours, 58 minutes, and 55 seconds, being the only runner to finish under six hours. The second-place finisher crossed the line with a time of 6:03:56, while the Eibar athlete completed the race in 6 hours, 7 minutes, and 22 seconds, just over eight minutes behind the winner.
Following him, the next Eibar runner to finish placed 22nd with a time of 7:05:16. Several other Eibar runners also managed to complete the race, including one who finished 37th with 7:22:04, another in 240th with 9:45:42, and a female runner who completed the course in 304th position with 11:05:01.
