The companies Etorki and Lana, members of the Mondragon Kooperatiba group, have inaugurated a new facility in Murgia, adjacent to their existing factory. With this new 95,000 square meter infrastructure, annual wood production will increase from 80,000 to 300,000 cubic meters, a threefold increase. They aspire to become "the largest and most efficient sawmill in southern Europe".
This project is also expected to create one hundred new jobs, as reported by the EFE agency. The Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, emphasized that Aiaraldea has a future and announced his intention to return soon with more investments.
“"The Lehendakari has defended that Aiaraldea has a future and has announced his intention to return soon with more investments."
Both companies, which merged last April, have spent four years developing the project, with an investment exceeding 67 million euros. During the inauguration, it was highlighted that the Basque Government contributed 12.8 million euros through the Handitu and Handitu Egurra programs, with the aim of "helping to strengthen the company's competitiveness and its impact on the surrounding area".
In addition to Lehendakari Imanol Pradales, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister Amaia Barredo, General Deputy Ramiro González, and the mayor of Aiara, Pruden Otegi. The Lehendakari recalled that he has visited the region three times in the last year to announce three significant investments: those of Vidrala, Harsco, and the current one.
