The Aiaraldea region has decided to postpone the anticipated regional gathering for seniors, which was scheduled to take place today in Vitoria-Gasteiz. This decision prioritizes the health and welfare of participants, as the elderly demographic is particularly vulnerable to high temperatures. Organizers are now working to reschedule, coordinating with bus companies, catering services, and other involved parties.
For residents over 60 registered in Llodio, Amurrio, Ayala, Artziniega, and Okondo, two options are available: a full refund of the registration fee or to maintain their registration for the rescheduled event.
"Our absolute priority right now is to avoid unnecessary risks and ensure the gathering can be enjoyed safely and comfortably at a later date," stated the Aiaraldea regional entity. The 25th edition had planned visits to emblematic sites like the Cathedral of Santa María and the Bibat Museum, along with transport, food, and entertainment.
Meanwhile, the City Council of Iruña Oka, within the Añana region, has taken the heat situation very seriously and decided to suspend the traditional San Juan night bonfire to prevent any potential fire risk. "If conditions permit, a new date will be announced for its celebration," they indicated.
The same reason has led to the closure of barbecues in parks across the province, including those at Santa Ana in Laudio, despite being designated recreational areas. These approved grills "will be available for public use again once the alerts end and fire risk restrictions are lifted," explained the Laudio City Council.
No official statements regarding San Juan bonfires have been made in other municipalities, suggesting that planned events are proceeding. In Amurrio, for instance, a bonfire is scheduled for tonight at 10:00 PM in Bañueta, preceded by music performances, wooden games, and hot chocolate, followed by a traditional dance.
