The Basque Government, in collaboration with ETORKI and Lana companies, has driven a significant industrial leap in the wood sector in Aiaraldea, aiming to strengthen employment and competitiveness in the region.

The new facility inaugurated in Murga solidifies Euskadi's position in wood transformation and links this industrial activity to territorial development and job creation. The importance of this project for the Aiaraldea region, which is currently facing challenges, has been highlighted.

"Euskadi has a unique business fabric, from forest exploitation to primary and secondary processing, engines that maintain our forest heritage."

The new sawmill, integrated into the Mondragón Group, will significantly increase its production capacity, from 80,000 to 300,000 cubic meters of sawn timber annually, primarily using radiata pine. This will optimize the use of a key resource in Euskadi's forest value chain.
This project, developed between 2022 and 2026, has mobilized an investment exceeding 67 million euros. More than 12 million euros have been contributed by the Basque Government through the Handitu and Handitu Egurra programs, reinforcing the company's competitiveness and its impact on the environment. The facility, located on a 95,000 square meter plot, incorporates advanced technology for comprehensive wood processing, improving efficiency and facilitating the generation of higher value-added products.
The industrial expansion of ETORKI and Lana is part of their growth and integration process with LANA S. Coop., aiming to gain scale, efficiency, and innovation. This seeks to respond to new market demands such as industrialized timber construction or sustainable packaging. The project aligns with the objectives of Euskadi's Strategic Wood Plan (PEMA), promoting local supply, traceability, and forest certification.
