Gernika-Lumo City Council has not regulated the use of the Zearreta sports court, despite an investment of nearly 650,000 euros, affecting 1,500 students throughout the school year.

In October of last year, the players of Lointek Gernika inaugurated the new covered sports court in Zearreta. This new facility was initially intended to benefit 1,500 students from Allende Salazar and Seber Altube schools, who used it daily. The goal was also for it to remain open to the public on weekends and in the afternoons.
However, as the school year draws to a close, the educational community of Allende Salazar Public School has expressed its frustration. Due to the lack of regulation of its use during school hours by the Gernika-Lumo City Council, students have been unable to utilize the facilities.

"The municipal inaction has meant that, after a full school year, the nearly 1,500 anticipated students have not been able to use the space equitably, with Allende Salazar students being the most affected as they have not been able to use the facilities all year."

Following a public investment of 648,700 euros, the absence of regulations has led to increasing tension between the Allende Salazar and Seber Altube communities. Faced with this conflict, the City Council commissioned a legal mediation whose report, issued on March 25, 2026, was unequivocal: the delay in regulation is detrimental to both parties, directly affects educational quality, and requires an immediate decision. Nevertheless, as of May 2026, the municipal government has yet to take action.
Despite the Allende Salazar AMPA having submitted updated reports and proposals to both the City Council and the political groups PNV and EH Bildu, an institutional response has not yet arrived. Given the seriousness of the situation and to avoid starting the next school year under the same conditions, the Allende Salazar AMPA is calling for a demonstration this Friday, May 8, at 5:00 PM in front of the City Council, demanding fair and urgent regulation.
