The Gernika-Lumo City Council has organized the XXXIX edition of the Pasealekuko Sports Tournament, running from June 15 to August 5, introducing a new category for athletes over 36 years old.

Gernika-Lumo is set to host a new edition of the Pasealekuko Sports Tournament, now in its XXXIX year. The competition, organized by the City Council, will run from June 15 to August 5, combining futsal, basketball, and handball. This summer's major innovation is the creation of the “Senior +” category, aimed at athletes over 36 years old, seeking to broaden the social impact of the event.
This multi-sport championship, presented by the Council, annually brings together hundreds of participants of various ages around these three deeply rooted local disciplines. The main innovation of this 39th edition focuses on futsal with the “Senior +” category. Organizers aim to create a dedicated league if there is sufficient response from veterans; otherwise, these teams will be integrated into the conventional senior bracket. Additionally, it has been announced that some matches will be recorded, with prior image rights authorization, so participants can have a graphic memento of their involvement in the tournament.
The registration period is now open and will remain so until May 22. Interested individuals have two ways to register: via an online form accessible through QR codes or in person. The latter option will take place on May 21, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Rural Kutxa office in the town.
Regarding fees, the organization has set a cost of 80 euros per team for futsal and basketball. For handball, the registration fee per pair will be 20 euros.
The success of this event, which will conclude on August 5 with the traditional trophy ceremony, relies on the close collaboration between the City Council and key sports clubs in the municipality: Gernikako Lagunak Erabil Futbol Sala, Gernika Kesb, and Arkupe Sustabiz Kirol Elkartea. Together, they seek to offer a space for coexistence and healthy leisure that enlivens summer afternoons in the heart of the town.
