During this institutional visit, the importance of the new infrastructure, where Osakidetza provides Primary Care services with medical and nursing professionals, was highlighted. The facility, which reopened on May 18th, has substantially improved healthcare for the local population through its renovated spaces.
Minister Alberto Martínez emphasized Osakidetza's capability to directly offer primary care services in small rural and coastal municipalities like Mundaka. This municipality is notably characterized by a high ratio of elderly residents, with nearly a fifth of its inhabitants over 75 years old.
Osakidetza's healthcare staff, an integrated team of doctors and nurses, conduct activities focused on programs for chronic patients or those in fragile conditions.
Furthermore, the space renovation optimizes routine family medicine and nursing consultations, promotes community health initiatives, and strengthens more fluid and direct communication with the two elderly residences located in the town.
The new health center distributes its services in distinct and significantly larger areas than before, housing a medical consultation room, a nursing room, and a multipurpose area for blood tests, functional tests, and wound care. The interior design is completed with adapted restrooms and a spacious waiting room prioritizing user well-being and safety.
Technically, the facility stands out for its strong commitment to architectural sustainability by incorporating aerothermal technology. This system ensures efficient thermal control, minimizing energy consumption and aligning with Osakidetza's strategy to progressively reduce its carbon footprint.
This modernization of the local network, showcased in today's institutional meeting, is part of the strategic objectives of the Basque Health Pact to safeguard and enhance Primary Care. Thus, the Department of Health and Osakidetza reaffirm their roadmap to offer services of the highest quality, proximity, and equity in all municipalities.
