Bermeo will transform into the epicenter of traditional Basque dances this Sunday with the celebration of Bizkaiko Dantzari Eguna, an event bringing together over 3,000 young dancers from 70 groups across the territory.
Lamera Park will serve as the main stage for the day, organized by Bizkaiko Dantzarien Biltzarra, as part of the commemorative events for the 50th anniversary of the local group, Alkartasuna Dantza Taldea.
“
"This gathering has consolidated itself as a space for coexistence, exchange, and exhibition for federated groups. This edition will feature around seventy groups, who will showcase the work and preparation developed throughout the year on stage."
From early morning (10:30 AM), the dantzaris will take to the streets of the fishing town with kalejiras leading them to the park, where they will highlight the diversity of euskal dantzak. Organizers have stated that the public will have the opportunity to witness and enjoy months of rehearsals, coordination, repertoire learning, and collective effort.
“
"The enthusiasm and commitment of the participants, regardless of their age or experience, will once again be the main protagonists of the day. Likewise, the event will allow attendees to enjoy the artistic quality of the dance groups and highlight the richness of Basque folklore."
One of the main events for traditional dance groups in Bizkaia has also become a space for coexistence and exchange for participants who share the same passion and seek to transmit it to new generations.
The mayor of the host municipality has stated that Basque dances are the soul of the people and constitute a living treasure that must be cared for, loved, and proudly claimed. She highlighted the work carried out over half a century by the Alkartasuna Dantza Taldea group, emphasizing that thanks to their commitment and enthusiasm, the dances remain alive and Bermeo continues to strengthen its identity.
For her part, the Deputy for Culture, Leixuri Arrizabalaga, stressed that this is a deeply rooted initiative that contributes to preserving and disseminating Basque culture and identity.
Given the arrival of hundreds of visitors and participants, the City Council will implement various traffic and mobility measures to ensure the celebration, facilitate movement, and enhance safety. On Sunday, all Bizkaibus services will depart from and arrive at the stop on Santamañe Street. With approximately one hundred buses expected, the Council advises avoiding the use of private vehicles during the morning if possible.
Most buses will park in the Landabaso B industrial estate and its surroundings, especially on Atalde Street, so parking will not be permitted in that area in the days leading up to the event. From the Artza crossroads, Lamera, Portuzarra, and the exit from the old town, as well as their parking areas, will be closed to traffic between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
