EITB, the Basque public television broadcaster, and the Jai Alai League have finalized a landmark agreement aimed at bolstering the popularity of cesta punta. This collaboration will feature the broadcast of 257 matches throughout the current season, covering the sport's three main categories: the men's First Division, the Women's League, and the new Men's Challenger tour.
The competitions are set to take place across 19 venues, spanning Hegoalde, Iparralde, France, and the United States. Since the conclusion of the historic era of U.S. frontons five years ago, cesta punta has undergone a significant reinvention. The dedicated efforts of promoters and institutional support have led to a substantial improvement in the sport's health, pointing towards a bright future.
The inclusion of EITB in broadcasting the full calendar underscores the sport's resurgence, which is further evidenced by strong public engagement. Notable tournaments contributing to this momentum include the Winter Series, the Saint-Jean-de-Luz Internationals, the Iron Cup in Bilbao, the Golden Glove of Biarritz, and the Donostia Final Four.
Geographically, Bizkaia will host seven venues, Gipuzkoa four, Araba one, Iparralde four, France two, and the United States one. The First Division will comprise 175 duels across 20 competitions. The Women's League will feature 12 tournaments with 43 matches, while the Challenger Tour will consist of 12 competitions and 39 matches.
