Izei Gallastegi, under the artistic name i6, is a young talent from Bizkaia who has already released three albums, recording all instruments and handling the design himself. The artist from Elorrio has launched Desira eta damua, a work of seven songs recorded when he was just fourteen years old. On this album, he performs both sung and instrumental tracks.
The young musician offers a blend of rock, pop, reggae, and rap influences in his songs. His father, Gorka Gallastegi, is a well-known musician who has played in various bands such as Non Demontre?, A!nke, Yakuzi, Ama Say, HAN, and Dorre. With his father's support, Izei is preparing for live performances and has also released physical copies of the album. He has formed a new band with his sister Irati, who plays the bass, and a friend from Lekeitio, who plays the drums. Their first and only rehearsal took place in rehearsal studios in Izurtza, and they will soon begin performing live.
Izei is studying piano at the Bartolome Ertzilla Music School and Conservatory in Durango, and the interview was conducted just as he was leaving class. While there, violist Onintza Azkarate (Ulannah) congratulated him on his album, describing it as fresh and innovative.
Gallastegi has composed all the songs and played guitar, bass, keyboards, and sung on the album. He has also adapted a verse from writer Kirmen Uribe, with his permission, and another from Oihana Arana. Among his musical influences, he mentions Lukiek, Txatxer, Streetwise, Ezpalak, Zebda, Pixies, Xiberoots, Skabidean, Errobi, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, and Fermin Muguruza.
He also designs his album covers using Photoshop, based on photographs from his travels. The album cover, for instance, is composed of images of towers and streetlights from France and Andalusia. His parents, particularly his father, protect his talent, and he does not have social media, preferring to emphasize the value of physical albums.
Izei Gallastegi has been selected to participate in the Arkupehotsak contest in Azpeitia on June 13th. He will compete alongside the bands Hartzak Zeruan, White Carters, and singer Maider Cigarroa. The project, promoted by Kulturaz, includes rehearsal time and a collective concert on June 14th in Azpeitia's main square.
Looking ahead, Izei does not have a specific dream but wishes to continue learning and growing as a musician.
