Hondarribia secures spot in La Concha Regatta; San Juan, San Pedro, and Hibaika miss out

A total of 24 boats participated in the race, with four of them hailing from Oarso Bidasoa. Ultimately, Hondarribia triumphed in this qualifying event, securing their spot in the year's premier regatta. Consequently, San Juan, San Pedro, and Hibaika were unable to advance.

The preliminary forecasts largely held true regarding the qualification prospects for the Oarso Bidasoa teams. Hondarribia, in particular, demonstrated its ambition and capability, finishing second in the first turn and securing third place on the return leg, thus confirming their participation in one of the world's most significant rowing events. The 'Ama Guadalupekoa' boat will have the chance to compete for its fifteenth Concha title, having last won in 2020.

The conditions for the race were favorable, with a slight breeze in La Concha bay and slightly choppier seas outside. Spectators from Oarsoaldea and Hondarribia were notably present at the port of San Sebastián.

In the men's qualifying race, Zierbena set the fastest time, followed by Orio, Hondarribia, Bermeo, Getaria, Lekeitio, and Ondarroa, completing the top seven. San Juan finished in eighth place, just over eight seconds behind the seventh position.

San Juan came close to qualifying for La Concha, despite finishing in eighth place. Although not the main favorites, the boat trained by Joseba Fernández delivered a solid performance, but fell short by a few seconds to be in contention for qualification. The 'Erreka' team has thus concluded their season.

For the rowers of San Pedro and Hibaika, aboard the Libia and Madalen boats respectively, today's race was a gift for the opportunity to compete in such a magnificent setting. Now, they will rest and look forward to the next year.
