Pink t-shirts have once again taken over the streets of Vitoria-Gasteiz. 2,400 women participated this Sunday in a new edition of the Women's Race, a now-familiar event on the city's calendar, which transformed the center of the Álava capital into a large pink tide throughout the morning.
The race kicked off at 10:30 AM from the Mendizabala parking lot, the start and finish point of a 5-kilometer urban route that participants completed running or walking. It was a morning where the weather also offered a respite; after several days of unusual heat and humidity for late May in Vitoria-Gasteiz, temperatures dropped this Sunday, accompanying the runners throughout the course.
There was also time for acknowledgments before the starting gun, with a tribute to Lorena, Tania, and Estíbaliz, the three Alavan gymnasts who made history in Atlanta 1996.
Families, groups of friends, mothers and daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters. The Women's Race once again brought together participants of all ages for a day that combines sport, physical activity, and a festive atmosphere. From early morning, the surroundings of Mendizabala were filled with groups preparing for the start, posing for souvenir photos, and warming up before the event.
The pink tide flowed through some of the city's main streets on a route that passed through Portal de Lasarte, Paseo de Salbatierrabide, Portal de Castilla, Ramón y Cajal, Paseo de la Senda, Manuel Iradier, Heraclio Fournier, Paseo de la Universidad, and Fray Francisco de Vitoria before returning to Mendizabala.
After the race, participants enjoyed the usual post-event atmosphere, with activities in the finish area and a Zumba class. Additionally, awards were presented to the fastest runners.
