The tugboat Gure Gascuña, which was undergoing repair work in the bay of Orio, has reignited this afternoon. The fire had initially broken out near the Txurruka esplanade, off the coast of Ondarroa (Bizkaia), but the vessel has recently begun emitting smoke again. Consequently, the local police have implemented several safety measures, including closing the passage to the bar and access to the beach.
The tugboat had been moored in Orio's bay for days for repair work. The fire started inside the vessel while workers were on duty, around 11:30 AM. Firefighters worked from both land and water to extinguish the flames, managing to control the ship's fire by approximately 1:30 PM. However, the fire intensified again in the afternoon, and the tugboat started emitting smoke once more.
During the initial morning fire, three people had to be treated for smoke inhalation on board the vessel, and two of them were taken to Donostia Hospital.
