The campaign, set to take place in more than 150 supermarkets across the territory, relies on this human network to encourage donations and ensure its success. A similar large-scale collection will also occur in the other Basque territories.
The presence of volunteers, identifiable by a blue vest in supermarkets, is a crucial factor. Luis Crovetto, president of the Bizkaia Food Bank, emphasizes: "If there are no volunteers in the supermarkets, practically nothing is collected, whereas when volunteers are present, success is assured."

The organization requires additional personnel to bolster collection and distribution efforts, particularly those with a driving license. The areas most in need are Basauri, Mungia, Gernika, certain parts of Bilbao, and Portugalete, with a shortage that becomes more pronounced on Saturday. Crovetto attributes this to it being a "bad time" due to student exams, communions, weddings, and baptisms.
Crovetto has highlighted a social reality that has deeply "impressed" him for several years: the changing profile of individuals requiring assistance. "There are people with jobs who struggle to make ends meet, who have very precarious salaries, and have a mortgage or rent, children, and many expenses," he explains.

This situation, where salaries are insufficient to cover basic expenses and food, prompts the organization's president to reflect. "It is very important that we consider that we are all vulnerable, even if we are not at a specific moment in our lives," he states.
To volunteer, one only needs to dedicate a few hours over the weekend. "You can be there for 3 hours, and if that doesn't work for you, you can be there for 2," notes Luis Crovetto, describing it as a "precious" and rewarding task. Interested individuals can register on the Bizkaia Food Bank's website.
In addition to in-person volunteering, there are other ways to contribute. Financial donations can be made through the organization's website via Bizum, bank transfer, or PayPal. Contact can also be made by phone at 944 499 258 and 946 053 779.
