Euskalmet has issued a yellow alert for Bizkaia this Friday, May 8, anticipating severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. Between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM, very intense downpours are forecast, potentially exceeding 15 liters per square meter in one hour. Additionally, there is a possibility of hail and strong wind gusts, ranging from 70 to 90 kilometers per hour.
According to Aemet, this weather pattern could persist throughout the weekend, influenced by a stationary low-pressure system west of Portugal. While mornings may start sunny, the weather is expected to deteriorate in the afternoons. Southerly winds have raised temperatures, with highs around 23 degrees Celsius, contributing to a characteristic muggy atmosphere in the region.
For Saturday, the Basque Meteorological Agency indicates that the sky will be cloudier, with high and medium clouds, which could bring light and scattered rain, but without the intensity of heavy showers. On Sunday, however, more convective clouds are expected to develop, increasing the likelihood of stormy phenomena. Temperatures will remain stable over the weekend, around 22 to 23 degrees Celsius.
The forecast for the rest of the week is not very promising. The State Meteorological Agency states that the low-pressure system will continue to affect the Cantabrian coast, maintaining a high probability of rain. Thermometers, meanwhile, will experience a slight drop, settling below 20 degrees Celsius.
