The College of Interior Designers and Decorators of Bizkaia (CODDB) took a historic step this Thursday with the official inauguration of its new headquarters in Deusto. The event brought together a significant representation from public administrations, cultural and academic entities, and sector leaders.
This new space, which exceeds 300 square meters and was renovated by members of the Governing Board, is designed to be the epicenter of design in Bizkaia. It features meeting rooms, multipurpose areas, and a large zone for conferences and presentations, intended to strengthen ties with the community.
Asier Abaunza, Bilbao City Council's councilor for Urban Planning, Strategic Projects, and Public Space, stated that "the venue is very well designed and offers a space where all kinds of activities, sessions, talks… can be programmed."
Throughout the event, the alignment between the College and various institutions was highlighted. Andoni Diaz, president of the CODDB, emphasized the commitment of administrations to urban development, noting the importance of public bodies integrating the culture of design into their city strategies, facilities, and welfare policies.
Diaz also took the opportunity to express gratitude for the proximity and support consistently received from the represented institutions, for their backing of design and contribution of added value to the public.
Representing the Bilbao City Council, councilor Asier Abaunza conveyed the council's satisfaction with the new headquarters, explaining that it enhances the visibility of a collective that, while active for many years, had previously been known to a very small audience.
Prominent figures from the architectural and academic fields, such as Iñaki Santiago (technical director at Azpiegiturak SAMP) and Leyre Fdez Unamuno (CODDB member), were also present. On a sectoral level, the event included a notable delegation from across the state, with the attendance of Unai Sanz, president of the General Council of Official Colleges of Interior Design and Decoration, along with presidents and board members from all Official Colleges nationwide.
