Bizkaia is spearheading Euskadi's e-commerce expansion, with a 10.3% surge in online sales driving the territory's business digitalization efforts.

The province of Bizkaia has emerged as a key player in Euskadi's e-commerce growth, achieving a 10.3% increase in its online sales. Official data reveals that the territory accounts for 39.7% of all electronic sales in Euskadi, establishing it as the primary engine for business digitalization.
According to Eustat, Euskadi's electronic sales reached 35.422 billion euros, a 7.1% rise from the previous year. Notably, Bizkaia recorded a higher growth rate of 10.3%, surpassing the Basque Country's average and underscoring the advancement of digital transformation among Vizcayan companies.
While electronic purchases saw a 2.4% decrease across Euskadi, Bizkaia experienced a more moderate decline of 1.1%. This indicates greater stability in the utilization of digital tools for supplier management and business procurement.
In Euskadi, one in every three establishments engaged in electronic transactions in 2025, reaching 33.9%. This growth is primarily attributed to an increase in companies making online purchases, although the number of establishments selling digitally is also steadily advancing.
For Bizkaia's SMEs, commercial digitalization is now a crucial factor for maintaining competitiveness. The adoption of e-commerce enables access to new customers, broader market reach, and optimized purchasing and sales processes, leading to reduced costs and enhanced efficiency.
Online sales constituted 53.7% of the total sales for establishments operating online, while electronic purchases represented 40.4% of the total acquisitions made by companies purchasing via the internet.
Among establishments employing 10 or more individuals, 42.8% conduct e-commerce operations, accounting for 79% of electronic sales and 74.8% of online purchases in Euskadi.
The observed trends in 2025 confirm e-commerce as a key driver of business transformation. For Bizkaia, which exceeds the Basque average in digital sales growth, the challenge lies in extending these advancements to a larger number of SMEs and leveraging new technologies to bolster the competitiveness of the business landscape.
