Euskalmet has issued yellow alerts across Alava due to extreme temperatures, persistent heat, and the consequent risk of forest fires.

The summer-like atmosphere has strongly settled in Alava. The Basque Meteorology Agency, Euskalmet, has activated several yellow alerts for the historic territory due to a combination of extreme high temperatures, persistent heat, and the resulting risk of forest fires.
The meteorological situation, characterized by completely clear skies and the presence of a south-southeasterly wind with some intensity, is leaving unusually high readings across the entire province.
The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will activate its Heat Plan this Wednesday, May 27th, starting at 13:00, following the high temperature forecast issued by Euskalmet. The Heat Plan is the municipal device designed to offer a rapid, effective, and coordinated response to extreme temperature episodes, aiming to protect public health, especially vulnerable groups.
One consequence of the early activation of the Heat Plan is the launch of climate shelters. These are spaces to cool down or rest, maintaining their usual functions and protocols. A total of 29 municipally managed buildings, such as civic centers and sports complexes, along with facilities from other entities like museums and shopping centers, offer rest areas and free water.
In Vitoria-Gasteiz, Tuesday is experiencing a suffocating atmosphere. According to general data from Euskalmet, the thermometer in the Alavese capital ranges between a minimum of 15 degrees and a predicted maximum of 31 degrees.
The situation is no less intense in the south of the province. In Rioja Alavesa, represented by the municipality of Laguardia, thermometers show identical values during the central hours of the day, reaching a maximum of 31 degrees. However, nights are notably hotter in this wine region, with recorded minimum temperatures around a high of 19 degrees.
The weather forecast for the coming days indicates that the heat will continue unabated for the residents of Alava. For this Wednesday, May 27th, Euskalmet will maintain yellow alerts for persistent high temperatures and forest fire risk. In Vitoria-Gasteiz, a rise in mercury is expected, with maximums reaching 33 degrees, while minimums will range between 14 and 15 degrees.
Looking ahead to Thursday, May 28th, the meteorological outlook remains consolidated with the same intense heat parameters. Euskalmet predicts skies will continue to be practically clear throughout the Alavese territory. In Vitoria-Gasteiz, thermometers will repeat the previous day's trend, with minimums between 14 and 15 degrees and maximums reaching 33 degrees again. Laguardia will experience an identical scenario, with a minimum of 19 degrees and a maximum of 33 degrees.
