The works have been assigned to the company Jaizubia, which will have an eight-month period to operate on an area of approximately 3,500 square meters. This project will bring significant changes to the center of Donostia, specifically in the section between Urbieta and Hondarribia streets.
As a result of the urbanization, San Martin street, which previously had three lanes, will become an exclusive pedestrian zone. Additionally, a bike lane will be incorporated into this section, promoting sustainable mobility. Previously, this street experienced a high volume of vehicular traffic towards the Urumea river.
The intervention seeks to achieve a balance between historical memory and the need to adapt to new uses. The works also include the restoration of affected services, such as sanitation, rainwater, and supply networks, as well as urban furniture, lighting, and landscaped areas. In the last year, since the beginning of phase I of the works in the Center, approximately 3,700 square meters of occupied surface have been progressively recovered for the city.
