The Social Welfare department of the Irun City Council is once again launching the 'Udan Gogoz' program, offering leisure activities and physical and mental exercise for individuals over 60 throughout the summer.

The Social Welfare department of the Irun City Council, once again, will launch the 'Udan Gogoz' program. This initiative, created in 2018, offers leisure activities throughout the summer for people over 60 years old, aiming to combat unwanted loneliness, promote physical and mental exercise, and compensate for the reduced activity in Senior Spaces during these months.
The free activities will take place from Monday to Friday, from July 6th to August 28th, with many held outdoors. This year, to facilitate attendance, two parks will be utilized. In La Sargia park, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, yoga will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and gymnastics on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In case of rain, the activity will move to the Uranzu fronton.
At Anzaran park, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, the schedule will be reversed, with gymnastics on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If the weather is unfavorable, the Lekaenea social space will be used. No formal registration is required; participants only need to bring comfortable clothing and a mat.
Free bus excursions will also be organized twice a month to explore the surroundings and socialize in groups, with each attendee covering their own meal costs. On July 10th, a visit to the cathedral of Vitoria and a winery is planned. On July 24th, the itinerary includes the Science Museum and the Igeldo amusement park. In August, the first outing on the 7th will be to Gernika, followed by a boat trip on the Bilbao estuary. On the 21st, the trip will be to Ipar Euskal Herria, visiting the caves of Sare and the Basque Cake Museum. For these excursions, registration is required via the municipal website from June 15th to 25th. If the number of registrants exceeds available spots, a lottery will be held on June 26th at the Palmera Montero center.
Another significant new feature this year will be immersive experiences using virtual reality headsets, offering users over 200 360-degree experiences, such as hot air balloon rides or virtual tours of distant cities and museums.
These sessions aim to stimulate concentration and memory and will take place in room 1 of the Palmera Montero Space, from July 7th to August 27th, on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Registration can be done at the civic center itself, from Monday to Saturday, between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
