Gorka Álvarez, the PNV's candidate for mayor of Irun, has formalized his candidacy and aims to lead the city after the 2027 municipal elections.

Gorka Álvarez, the PNV's candidate for mayor of Irun, has formalized his candidacy and aims to lead the city after the 2027 municipal elections. Following his designation by the local assembly of the Jeltzale party, Álvarez made his first public appearance with the new role, expressing strong confidence in leading the political project.
The current delegate for Works, Maintenance, and Infrastructure acknowledges the significant challenge. "Now begins a great race, with a major objective: to reach the city's mayoralty," he stated. Cautiously, he added, "We will discuss this in the coming months," as "there are many steps to take, many things to announce, and many topics that will generate discussion."
Álvarez, who also serves as the second deputy mayor, succeeds Xabier Iridoy as the lead candidate. Iridoy had headed the PNV's list in the previous four municipal elections and stepped down from his council position in October 2024.
