Bidasoa Irun handball team has reaffirmed its continental standing, entering the European 'Top 30' in the EHF's latest club rankings.

Irudek Bidasoa Irun has once again certified its continental status. The European Handball Federation (EHF) released its club rankings this week, a crucial factor for establishing the pots in European draws. In this classification, the Gipuzkoa entity is part of the European 'Top 30'.
With a total of 91 points, the Irun-based team leverages its last two continental seasons for this 30th position, having reached the quarterfinals and the Main Round of the EHF European League. The bulk of the points comes from the brilliant 2024/25 campaign, where the team accumulated 66 points by reaching the quarterfinals against MT Melsungen, the competition's winner last season.
Added to this record are the 25 points achieved in the recent 2025/26 season, resulting from its notable participation and performance in a demanding trajectory against rivals such as Flensburg, Kiel, or Montpellier.
It is important to note that the team coached by Álex Mozas has accumulated 91 points over two seasons, while the EHF classification considers the three most recent triennia. In the 2023/24 season, the club did not participate in any European competition, leaving its tally for that exercise at zero.
At the national level, Bidasoa Irun stands as the second-best team, trailing behind Barça, which leads the overall table with 650 points due to its dominance in the Champions League (nearly 100 points more than the second-placed team, Magdeburg).
Regarding other teams in the Liga Asobal, Granollers occupies the 51st position (with 57 points), followed at a distance by Ademar de León (89th, 25 points), Balonmano Cuenca (124th, 14 points), and Torrelavega and Logroño La Rioja (both in positions 130th and 135th, with 13 points).
Looking at Bidasoa's natural European ecosystem, ahead of the Gipuzkoan team in this segment of regular European League participants are only clubs with superior projects and budgets, such as Flensburg, Kiel, Montpellier, Melsungen, Porto, Nexe, Tatabanya, or Benfica.
Considering the 24 Champions League participants, the Gipuzkoan squad would have been the best in pot 4, just 13 points behind Kolstad, the lowest-ranked team in pot 3.
The Men's EHF Club Ranking is the official tool of the European Federation for establishing club hierarchy. For its calculation, results from the three most recent seasons in EHF competitions are considered (in the current edition: 2025/26, 2024/25, and 2023/24). Teams earn points based on the rounds they reach and the results obtained in each match (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw) within the Champions League, European League, or European Cup.
Although the ranking does not directly decide who participates in each tournament (which depends on country quotas), it is the fundamental factor determining the top seeds and pots in the draws for the various European stages. Bidasoa will face the continental draw in mid-July.
