The Sañu Bizirik platform has organized a demonstration in Vitoria-Gasteiz for May 23rd, aiming to protest against numerous macroprojects planned in Álava and to defend the territory.

Two weeks after Sañu day, this year's celebration has held special significance. In addition to the usual demands, it has served to commemorate the successful withdrawal of the Statkraft company's wind macroproject. However, this achievement does not mean that the natural environment is safe; on the contrary, many new macroprojects have recently come to light.
Although these projects are located in various parts of Euskal Herria, Álava is the most severely affected territory. Plans include the construction of the High-Speed Train, large-scale wind and photovoltaic power plants, high and very high voltage lines, large data centers, biomethanization macro-plants, and large agricultural exploitations, among others.
According to the platform, the objective of these projects is not to meet societal needs, but rather to enrich their promoters, businesses, and vulture funds. In alignment with these interests, institutions and political parties justify these projects in the name of economic development or ecological transition, speculating with the Álava territory and deepening a model of territorial industrialization.

"The struggle carried out in these places is also our struggle, and our struggle is theirs, because the defense of the land and the pursuit of fair social development for the entire society unite us."

The organizers
All of this not only destroys the natural environment and mars the landscape; it privatizes natural assets, dispossesses us of communal lands and mountains, disrupts rural life projects, and pushes our communities towards abandonment. The Sañu Bizirik platform reminds that, just as they were under the threat of the Sañu project, many towns and regions are now in a similar situation, and it is essential to show them solidarity and support.
For these reasons, the Sañu Bizirik platform calls on citizens to participate in the demonstration to be held on May 23rd in Vitoria-Gasteiz under the slogan “No to Macroprojects!”. A bus will be organized to travel to Vitoria-Gasteiz, and registration can be done at the Urtzi and Haginpe bars.
