Athletics in Álava achieved significant milestones over the past weekend. At the Spanish University Championship, an athlete claimed the silver medal in hammer throw, simultaneously setting a new Álava record. This young thrower, based in Vitoria, came very close to breaking the Euskadi record as well, demonstrating his high competitive level.
In addition to his silver medal in hammer throw, the athlete also competed in shot put, where he finished in fifth place. Nevertheless, his overall performance at the Spanish University Championship was highly positive, particularly due to the significance of a national medal and a mark that now forms part of local athletics history.
The Alavese representation extended beyond this individual performance. His training partners also delivered notable participations in the competition. In discus throw, a female athlete finished fourth, while a male athlete concluded in sixth place in the same discipline. Furthermore, another athlete stood out by securing a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles, reaching the podium.
Moreover, the Euskadi U18 and U20 Championships also yielded several remarkable results for the group. In the women's U18 hammer throw category, two athletes achieved second and third positions, respectively, both with new personal bests. Another athlete completed a strong group performance with a fourth-place finish and an improved personal record.
Javelin throw events also saw positive outcomes. In the men's U18 category, an athlete was crowned Euskadi champion with a new personal best. In the women's U18 category, another athlete also secured the autonomous title. In the men's U20 category, an athlete finished in fourth place, improving his personal best. This weekend confirms the strong momentum of Alavese athletics, with medals, personal bests, and records that reinforce the ongoing work.
