The presence of women in the Artium Museum's collection has grown from 18% to 24% over the last five years, encompassing more than 2,800 works. This development was shared by the museum's director, Beatriz Herráez Diéguez, during her appearance before the General Assemblies of Álava to outline the art acquisition policy.
Herráez stressed that this progress stems from a deliberate and prioritized acquisition strategy. The director noted that works by male artists typically command higher prices than those by female artists.
“"This is the result of an acquisition policy, a considered measure that is always at the forefront."
Between 2020 and 2025, the museum has added a total of 168 new works. Of these, 116 were purchased from artists for 661,000 euros, 131 were bought from galleries for one million euros, 16 came from families and bequests valued at 131,000 euros, and one work was acquired through auction.
