In the surroundings of Álava, even on rainy spring days, this waterfall route offers a unique opportunity to enjoy nature, combining spectacular landscapes and easy trails.

During this spring season, even with the presence of rain, it is no obstacle to getting outdoors and enjoying nature. Near Álava, and within the territory itself, there are very attractive spots to see in all their splendor.
The social media account @laikanper proposes a route, with water as the main protagonist, that helps discover these natural gems. It is an ideal time of year to put on your boots and let yourself be surprised by their charm.
The adventure, which can be done by motorcycle or car, alternates short trails with easy walks, without great physical demands. Throughout the route, the variety of landscapes stands out: cliffs, lush forests, and waterfalls worth discovering. It is estimated that the route has a length of 55-60 kilometers, with a driving time of, at most, an hour and a half on foot if all sections are added up. It is also an interesting plan for spring and is not far from Vitoria.
The starting point of the itinerary is the Peñaladros waterfall, an easily accessible place that can be reached in five to ten minutes on foot from the car park. The second point is 12 kilometers away, about 20 minutes by car: the San Miguel de Angulo Waterfall. The walking path is also short, taking between 10 and 15 minutes to the viewpoint, in a greener and more enclosed landscape.
The next section, about 25 kilometers and 35-40 minutes away, leads to the Salto del Nervión. This is an easy route of about 2.5 kilometers, which can be completed in 30-40 minutes, leading to the highest waterfall on the entire Iberian Peninsula. Finally, there is the Gujuli or Goiuri waterfall, located 18 kilometers or 25 minutes from the previous point. Access here is comfortable, as the viewpoint is only a five-minute walk from the car park.
To fully enjoy the adventure, it is crucial to check the weather forecast beforehand, and it is a good idea to go after rainy days to see the waterfalls in their full essence. Comfortable and resistant footwear, such as hiking boots, is essential, as some areas of the trail can be slippery. Wearing waterproof clothing is also a good option, especially on humid days. It is always useful to carry water and a snack to replenish energy during the journey, and, as in any natural environment, to respect local flora and fauna.
