The Orio Arraunketa Elkartea has continued its winning streak this season, demonstrating dominance in trainerillas rowing competitions. Following victories in the Gipuzkoa, Euskadi, and Spanish batel championships, the team coached by Iker Zabala has swept the trainerillas regattas, winning the Territorial, National, and State championships.
The yellow boat asserted its authority in the state championship final held last Sunday in Castro waters, defeating Zierbena by just over 5 seconds, with Chapela taking third place 27 seconds behind. A week prior, in the national final, Orio had a 19-second lead over the Galician team. Zierbena significantly improved its performance but could not surprise the Gipuzkoan champions.
Orio was the clear favorite in Sunday's race in Castro and lived up to expectations by dominating the event from the start. The boat, helmed by Gorka Aranberri, quickly took the lead and completed the first turn with a 3-second advantage over Zierbena, a lead that doubled by the midpoint of the race.
The Galician crew gave their all in the third leg, managing to close the gap to just 3 seconds by the third turn. The threat from the Biscayan team did not materialize, and the yellow crew accelerated in the final sprint, crossing the finish line with an advantage of over 5 seconds. The winning crew consisted of Gorka Aranberri as the coxswain, Ander Zabala, Adrián González, Leandro Salvagno, Óscar Andrés Medina, Mikel Lizarralde, and Diego Pérez.
The women's category final also saw a victory for Orio, with Pasai Donibane finishing second, four seconds behind, followed by Astillero in third place. In the youth categories, Ondarroa won the women's event and Astillero the men's. In the cadet category, gold medals went to Mecos in the men's final and Boiro in the women's. With the trainerillas season concluded, next Sunday Lekeitio will host the Bizkaia traineras championship.
