Getaria is fully prepared to celebrate its Euskal Jaiak this weekend, offering a program filled with music, traditional dances, and pelota events starting Friday.

Getaria is ready to celebrate its Euskal Jaiak this weekend. While the main day is Saturday, activities will also take place on Friday. The schedule is packed with music, traditional dances, and more.
Activities will kick off on Friday afternoon at the town's fronton. This venue will host performances by the dance group Gure Txeru Dantza Taldea. At 6:00 PM, the younger generation will take the stage with a children's dance performance, followed by a show for young adults at 10:00 PM.
Friday's events will feature the participation of txistularis (Basque flute players), the Getaria Music Band, musicians from the Pepita Enbil music school, and dancers of all ages.
On Saturday, the day will begin early with music filling the streets. The 'Diana' will be performed by txistularis, trikitilaris (Basque accordion players), and pandereteros (tambourine players) starting from the Sahatsaga area. The txistularis will commence their route at 9:00 AM, and at 10:00 AM, students from the Musika Eskola's trikitixa class and tambourine players will join in.
At 11:30 AM, the Inpernupeko Joaldunak (a traditional Basque group) will parade through the streets, while young trikitilari students from the music school will liven up the old town, concluding in the main square. At midday, 12:30 PM, the Herriko Plaza will host a dance performance by the group Eingo. This will be followed by an 'irrintzi' (Basque shout) contest with prizes for the best shout. The morning will wrap up with the Larrain Dantza.
In the afternoon, rural sports and 'bertsos' (Basque improvised poetry) will take center stage. At 6:00 PM, the fronton will host the II. Etxeko Memoriala, a hand-pelota championship featuring the teams Mitxoletak and Eguzkiloreak. The event will be accompanied by bertsolaris Nerea Elustondo and Sebastian Lizaso. The Euskal Jaiak in Getaria will conclude with a 'romeria' (traditional festival dance) starting at 10:00 PM in the square, led by the group Bide Batez.
