An interim officer of the Sopela Local Police was arrested last Thursday by the National Police for an alleged drug trafficking offense. According to the City Council, a disciplinary file has been opened against the man, with suspension of employment and salary as precautionary measures.
According to information provided by the municipal corporation, the officer was brought before the judicial authorities the following Friday, after which he was released with precautionary measures. Sources consulted by this newspaper indicate that the interim officer had been dealing in narcotic substances within a small circle for some time. The officers in charge of the investigation searched his premises at the police station and his home, where they found cocaine and items used for drug preparation.
In this context, the Sopela City Council has issued a statement informing that, as the proceedings are ongoing, no further details will be provided regarding the officer's identity or the content of the investigation, which is still in progress.
In light of these events, and with the aim of guaranteeing the "correct" functioning of public service and "preserving citizens' trust in institutions," the City Council has "immediately" opened a disciplinary file. Precautionary measures have also been adopted, consisting of the provisional suspension of employment and salary, and the withdrawal of his service weapon and professional ID, while the investigation is carried out and the facts are clarified.
In this regard, the Sopela City Council will continue to collaborate with the competent authorities and will adopt the appropriate decisions based on the evolution of the proceedings and the results of the ongoing judicial and administrative actions.
