As every year, the Book Fair will gather numerous authors in the Biscay capital to present their latest works and meet with their readers. This year, the literary event will take place from May 26 to June 8 on the Paseo del Arenal, hosting 56 stalls with literary novelties and author signings.
Furthermore, as in previous editions, the Bidebarrieta Kulturgunea space, part of the Bilbao City Council, will host presentations in its Auditorium starting at 7:00 PM. These sessions will be open to the public, though prior reservation of invitations will be required via www.bilbaokultura.eus.
On Tuesday, May 26, Santiago Valcárcel will present his book Bilbao. Fiebre y veneno. The novel is set in Bilbao in 1920, during a period of industrial boom, where an infectious epidemic causes a severe health crisis. Valcárcel reconstructs key moments of the city through memory and historical dissemination.
On Wednesday, May 27, it will be the turn of Clara Sánchez, with her latest book, Lo inexplicable. The writer and academic of the Real Academia Española (RAE) addresses themes such as reincarnation in this novel, blending the dreamlike and reality in a thriller.
On Thursday, May 28, Jon Arretxe, Petro Márkaris, and Mikel Santiago will hold a conversation about the influence of local settings in their novels and how this shapes the characters within their universes and sagas.
A day later, on May 29, Lidia Jorge will present her latest novel, La costa de los murmullos, guiding readers into the Portuguese colonial reality through the eyes of colonizing army officers.
On Monday, June 1, Lorenzo Silva will visit Bidebarrieta with his book Con nadie, an intimate and disturbing narrative that prompts reflection on the fragility of human bonds and what often remains hidden.
On Tuesday, June 2, a conversation titled Miradas de mujer will take place between Eva Cosculluela, Karmele Jaio, and Nata Moreno. They will discuss the significance of women writers in the 21st century and recall the early 20th-century struggle of a group of women for recognition in the cultural sphere.
These literary encounters at the Bidebarrieta Library will continue with the presentations of España partida en dos by Julián Casanova and Carles Esquembre on Wednesday, June 3; ¿Cómo somos realmente? Experimentos psicológicos by Javier Urra on Thursday, June 5; and El futuro de la democracia by Daniel Innerarity on Monday, June 8.
