According to official data, 50.9% of April's arrivals and 53.6% of overnight stays were from foreign visitors. By territory, hotels in Álava saw a 1.1% rise in arrivals and a 2.3% increase in overnight stays. In Bizkaia, growth reached 7.4% and 8.0%, with an estimated 164,701 arrivals and 314,566 overnight stays. Gipuzkoa, meanwhile, experienced a 4.0% increase in arrivals (146,924) and a 2.8% rise in overnight stays (281,548).
Among the provincial capitals, the trend was mixed: Vitoria-Gasteiz saw a 3.3% decrease in arrivals, while Bilbao and San Sebastián recorded increases of 2.4% and 0.5%, respectively. In terms of overnight stays, Vitoria-Gasteiz reduced by 3.0%, contrasting with a 3.0% rise in San Sebastián and a 4.8% increase in Bilbao.
The average length of stay was 1.94 days, unchanged from the previous year. Occupancy levels stood at 59.7% by bed places and 71.0% by rooms, representing an increase of 0.8 and 2.6 percentage points compared to April 2025. In terms of profitability, the average daily rate (ADR) was 114.7 euros in the BAC, up 9.7%. It was 122.7 euros in Gipuzkoa, 113.2 euros in Bizkaia, and 97.0 euros in Álava.
This year's Easter holiday also boosted tourism, with 57,123 arrivals and 116,132 overnight stays, up 9.2% and 3.3% respectively from the previous year. Occupancy rates reached 74.8% by bed places and 79.8% by rooms, surpassing April 2025 figures.
In the first quarter cumulative data, arrivals grew by 1.2% and overnight stays by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2025. Rural houses also showed a significant increase in March, with arrivals up 21.6% and overnight stays up 16.1%, primarily among visitors from within Spain.
