The Pentecost festivities in Lezo commenced on Friday with the arrival of pirate Zabarre and Maria Labaien. The heat did not dampen the spirits of the residents, and the port filled up to welcome the duo and their crew. People of all ages gathered for the welcome, igniting the festive mood from the very first moment.
Awaiting Zabarre was also Perutxo, the representative of the King of France, who, as every year, confiscated Maria Labaien's cider. After a staged fight in the square and the arrest of the French soldiers and Perutxo, Zabarre proposed distributing the cider to his enemy, and the conflict concluded with a dance. This narrative, a blend of legend and folk theater, has taken over the port and become an integral part of Lezo's collective imagination.
The festivities will continue until Sunday, featuring a program with over 25 events and activities. Thanks to the collaboration between the Lezo City Council and local stakeholders, music, street entertainment, theater, children's shows, and traditional folk games will be central to the program.
On Sunday, the final day of the festivities, activity will begin early with a dawn parade at 09:30 by regional dulzaina players. An hour later, the market for young creators will open in Karlos Saldise square, while simultaneously, games of toka, igela, and bote will take place in Goiko square. Midday, at 11:30, the puppet show Alaia galtzagorria will be presented in Gurutze Santua square, and at 12:30, a parade of giants and big-heads will liven up the town's streets. In the afternoon, at 17:00, starting from Gurutze Santua square, an activity called Altxorraren bila (Treasure Hunt) will be held, with participants dressed as pirates. To conclude the day, at 19:00, the street theater performance Eraitsi SL will be offered in Goiko square, and at 21:30, the festivities will be bid farewell with a bull of fire in Gurutze Santua square.
