The incident occurred in the old town of Bergara early Saturday morning, involving a fight between several individuals. Upon arrival of the Ertzaintza patrols, three alleged participants were found at the scene. Two of them had cuts on various parts of their bodies, while the third sustained blows to the body and face.
The injured youths told the officers that minutes earlier, the other man had assaulted them with a bladed weapon, and they had retaliated in self-defense.
“"Minutes earlier the other man had assaulted us with a bladed weapon and we, in turn, had lunged at him in self-defense."
The officers identified the individuals involved: two young men aged 23 and one aged 28. One of them was arrested, while the other two were placed under investigation. Later, the Bergara Municipal Police identified a fourth young man, aged 24, who also had several cuts and may have been involved in the brawl.
The arrested individual will remain in police custody pending his appearance in court.
