The municipal group of the PNV in Bergara has expressed "concern" over the town's economic evolution in recent years and has warned of the risk of "being left behind" if “ambitious” measures are not adopted to attract investment, generate quality employment, and offer future opportunities to citizens.
In a statement, the jeltzale party believes Bergara needs to "regain economic momentum and re-establish itself as an attractive municipality for investment and business creation." In this regard, it recalls that "more than half of the land designated for economic activity remains undeveloped," a situation that, it points out, limits growth and job creation possibilities.
“We, the people of Bergara, want to be able to develop our life project in Bergara. For this, it is essential to have quality job opportunities, companies that commit to our municipality, and a clear economic development strategy,” states spokesperson Kepa Sebal Lazpiur.
The jeltzales consider that attracting new investments and companies should be a "priority" for any municipal government. However, they denounce that this issue "is not among the main concerns of the current EH Bildu Government".
Furthermore, they insist that part of the population is "forced to commute daily" outside the town to access jobs in line with their training and professional qualifications, which, as they indicate, "affects work-life balance and quality of life".
“Wouldn't it be more logical to make a firm commitment to allow talent to stay in Bergara? Our municipality has the resources, location, and capacity to attract economic activity, but for that, political leadership, planning, and ambition are needed,” adds Sebal.
The PNV explains that 54% of the land designated for economic activities is currently vacant, a figure they interpret as representative of the existing room for improvement to promote new business initiatives. Likewise, they underline that the rate of new company creation is below the average for Gipuzkoa (3.53% compared to 5.96%), which, in their opinion, shows "less economic dynamism compared to the territory as a whole".
Added to this situation is a difference in economic indicators compared to nearby municipalities. According to data provided by the PNV, "the GDP per inhabitant in Bergara stands at 45,141 euros, while in Arrasate it reaches 53,249 euros, a gap of over 8,000 euros per person".
“These figures are not mere statistics. Behind them are lost opportunities, departing talent, and life projects that have to be developed outside Bergara. Our municipality deserves an ambitious economic strategy that looks to the future and generates well-being for future generations,” defends the jeltzale spokesperson.
Therefore, the jeltzale group calls for "a clear roadmap" to boost economic activity, attract new companies, utilize available land, and create quality employment that allows "Bergara to regain competitiveness and offer more opportunities to its residents".
