The Getxo City Council has initiated an investment exceeding seven million euros for the complete renovation and expansion of the grandstand building at the Fadura sports facilities.

The Getxo City Council (Bizkaia) began work this Monday on the comprehensive renovation of the grandstand building located between Fadura's athletics track and rugby field, following the conclusion of the sports clubs' competition season. The new building will double the current surface area, increasing from 1,313 square meters to 2,742 square meters, with an investment of over seven million euros for the project, which is expected to be completed in 22 months.
As reported by the council, the design of the new building has been developed through a participatory process, incorporating the needs of the clubs that traditionally use the facility. It will feature a completely renovated gymnasium, changing rooms, and storage areas, along with multi-purpose rooms and office spaces for the management of sports organizations. Additionally, a new roof will replace the current one, designed with its location in mind to enhance comfort during adverse weather conditions.
The construction project also includes an elevator to ensure accessibility between the building's two floors, as well as separate entrances for athletes and the public. This will involve an access control system, and athletes will enter the athletics track or rugby field through an internal corridor that directly connects the facilities with the changing room area.
The renovation and expansion of the building are part of the 'Thinking Fadura' process, an initiative by the municipal body Getxo Kirolak aimed at transforming Fadura's exterior into a public sports park and upgrading its facilities. Consequently, work has been coordinated with clubs and associations to minimize the impact of the construction and allow for the continuation of sports activities throughout the approximately two years of works.
